University Life

Designed for prospective graduates and their families. You’ll see how our university runs, explore the support services available, and gain an insight into what life is like as a student.

Fairs & Events

Faculty Sponsored Days, Virtual Fairs, and Education Expos are just a few of the events lined up throughout the year.

We have always been one for providing as much opportunity as possible to explore university life as a student of Harris University, be it in person, or via online zoom meetings and webinars.

Throughout the year, you’ll have the opportunity to partake in some of the fun experiences offered.

Ever wondered about the inner workings of a frog, and how it grows from tadpole to froglet, then to frog? Or perhaps, are you curious to what goes into making a simple game like Pacman, and all the code required?

Each faculty will showcase a unique insight to stimulate your mind. These are super fun events not to be missed.

Student Activities

“Hands-on experiences” is a fun way for current and prospective students to open their mind and learn about something that they typically wouldn’t have access to.

Are you a business student, but curious about biology? Now you have the opportunity a few times a year to partake in a hands-on experience in another faculty.

Hands-On Experiences

Get hands-on experience with pulling apart a computer and reassembling it. Brought to you by the Faculty of Science.

Life as a Uni Student

Ask any graduate who’s been in the workforce for a few years, and likely they will all have good things to say about life as a university student.

It’s a special moment in your life to create new friendships and learn all about your chosen career path.

Special Interest & Sporting Groups

It’s a proven fact, exercising the mind and body will lead to an improvement in both physical and mental health. Improved health will of course then translate into better grades and a more positive student experience.

If you haven’t yet started, now is the time to get involved in a myriad of sports or special interest groups on offer. Soccer, cycling, basketball, swimming, chess, Toastmasters public speaking and so forth.

Do this now, turn it into a habit, and continue it well beyond your university days. You should make this as a life long ambition always having some importance in your daily life.

The Learning Experience

Gone are the days of dusty chalkboards and squeaking chairs.

Study in a modern classroom, each equipped with whiteboard, USB charging ports at each desk, presentation equipment and the use of white light to reduce eye strain.

Each room is climate controlled to ensure you are comfortable so that you can focus on what matters, your studies.

Login to your student portal to enjoy and online learning experience second to none. Low latency servers ensures no longer the need to wait around for webpages to load or videos to buffer. The click of a link or video will bring up the information you need to get going with your studies.

Dining Options

Due to COVID-19, we no longer offer a student canteen. Instead, please be sure to make use of local business which offers a range of dining options, from casual fast-food, to sit-in formal dining.

Sports

Show off your might and skills, join a sports team, and go for gold competing against others. Hone your strength and fitness with a 24 x 7 gym. Perfect for those with half-day classes.

Library

For quiet study time, small group meetings, or watching some videos, the library has you covered. All thesis documents are now available for digital downloads to further support your studies.

Information Technology

Free wifi plans are available to all full-time and part-time students. Furthermore, the majority of course content is now online, making it that much easier to re-enforce what you have studied in the classroom.

All assignments and exams are now conducted through your secure login area of the HU student portal.

Safety & Security

Security cameras are strategically placed around our classrooms to help ensure your safety. Furthermore, classrooms are closed to outside visitors unless signed in at the main reception, and wearing a “visitors” badge.

Security isn’t the responsibility of just the university, but of everyone. If you notice something that just doesn’t seem right, then let a member of staff know asap.

Health & Wellness

Stay at home if you feel unwell. If you have a fever, cough and difficulty breathing, seek medical attention and call in advance.

Whilst we would love to see your face in the classroom getting into your studies, there are times when you need to stay home, relax and get back to full health.

The lecturers are always happy to email you a study plan at home whilst you are sick to save you from falling behind in your studies.

Reflections from a Student

I cannot speak highly enough of my experience at HU. From the moment I arrived, I felt welcomed and supported by faculty and staff alike. The courses are challenging, but also incredibly rewarding. I feel that I not only gain a valuable education, but also a network of friends and mentors that I will carry with me for the rest of my life. (Jessie Miller / Sophomore, Faculty of Arts)

Discovering a Sense of Community and Purpose

What really sets this university apart is the sense of community it fosters. I made lifelong friends here, and I still keep in touch with many of them. I would highly recommend Harris to anyone looking for a challenging, rewarding educational experience. (Valerie Dupont / Graduate, Faculty of Science)

Unlocking the Door to a Brighter Future: One Student's Journey
